Welcome to the Department of Medical Biochemistry, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. Biochemistry is the aspect of biological sciences that inquires into the chemical constitution of living things and the reactions and processes that take place in the cell to maintain a healthy homeostasis within the whole organism. It furnishes the basic knowledge necessary for work in both the molecular and cellular aspects of modern Biology. Medical Biochemistry is the aspect of Biochemistry that seeks to understand and solve human health problems with the tools of modern Biochemistry.
The four-year Bachelor of Science (BSc.) programme in Medical Biochemistry is robust and challenging, prodding students to strive to attain their best. The curriculum aims to produce graduates with the requisite theoretical and practical knowledge to tackle health problems in Nigeria and Africa as a whole, through research. The Medical Biochemistry programme also provides the basic eligibility for higher degree studies in any aspect of Medical Biochemistry and related disciplines.
During your stay at the Department, you will work with a cohort of highly trained academic staff who will guide you as teachers, researchers, course advisers, and supervisors. This team of academic staff is supported by technical and administrative staff who work together to ensure a cohesive environment for excellence.
